✅ 🚀 Feature Request: Taxonomies as template type in Loop Grid + Loop Carousel, to Loop over taxonomies instead posts

Prerequisites

• I have searched for similar features requests in both open and closed tickets and cannot find a duplicate.
• The feature is still missing in the latest stable version of Elementor ( Elementor Pro )

What problem is your feature request going to solve? Please describe.

I want to Loop over WooCommerce product categories, But I find that there was no taxonomy template type in loop grid options.

Describe the solution you'd like

Please add WordPress taxonomies ( category of post/product, tags, custom taxonomies etc) as template type so that If we want to loop over them, it's easy for us.
It should not take too much time. It's a great option to have. We don't have to use any third-party option to loop over taxonomies.

After adding this feature, It will show taxonomies in the template menu as well. and we will be able to loop over taxonomies instead of posts

I will be able to loop over custom taxonomy like "Skill" and create a grid of skills

I have raised this issue many times. Currently, in the loop grid/carousel widget, in the Choose template type section, only two options, products and posts, are displayed. Therefore, if we have a custom post type, it will not be displayed in this section. Instead, we have to select it in the query tab > query!
I love Elementor. But to be honest, the ux in the two loop widgets is extremely weak. very weak. I think the image below is something that would be great and basic for two loop widgets.

this is something that the new loop builder should be able to do. Although i do understand that querying posts and querying taxonomy terms, so i have a feeling that it might not be as straightforward as one may think. Nevertheless making an infrastructure to be able to query taxonomy terms in the loop grid and loop carousel should be a priority and something that many people would use, especially on eshops.

At the moment, I'm having to take a different approach with Elementor which means using more plugins and bloat.

Here's a snippet from my functions.php that I wrote to get around this. It doesn't use loop grids but does get subcategories of current parent category so could still be useful for some

This is what the roadmap says, I think they are getting it wrong, As this discussion was to add a feature that loops over taxonomies, not loop products and posts.

The feature will be added to the Query component, so the answer is yes, even if it takes a few versions in between to sort all the differences out. 😉
